  • 4 boneless, skinless chicken breasts (about 1.5 lbs)
  • 1 cup barbecue sauce
  • 1 medium onion, thinly sliced
  • 4 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 cup low-sodium chicken broth
  • 1/2 tsp cayenne pepper (optional)

Instructions

  1. Rinse and pat dry the chicken breasts.
  2. In a skillet over medium heat, sauté the sliced onion in olive oil until translucent. Add minced garlic and cook for another 30 seconds.
  3. Layer sautéed onions and garlic at the bottom of the crockpot. Place chicken on top and pour in barbecue sauce and chicken broth.
  4. If desired, sprinkle cayenne pepper over the ingredients.
  5. Cover and cook on low for 6 hours until the chicken is tender.
  6. Shred the chicken using two forks directly in the crockpot and stir to combine with the sauce.
