Ingredients

Scale
  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1/4 cup granulated sugar
  • 1 packet (2 1/4 tsp) active dry yeast
  • 3/4 cup warm milk (110°F)
  • 2 tbsp unsalted butter (melted)
  • 1 large egg
  • 1/4 tsp salt
  • Powdered sugar for dusting

Instructions

  1. Warm the milk until just warm to touch. In a bowl, mix warm milk with sugar and yeast; let sit until foamy (5-10 minutes).
  2. In another bowl, combine flour and salt. Add foamy yeast mixture, melted butter, and egg to the flour; mix well.
  3. Knead dough on a floured surface for 5-7 minutes until smooth and elastic.
  4. Place dough in a greased bowl, cover, and let rise in a warm place until doubled in size (1-2 hours).
  5. Roll out risen dough to 1/2 inch thick; cut into squares.
  6. Fry in heated oil at 350°F until golden brown on both sides (about 2-3 minutes each side). Drain on paper towels and dust with powdered sugar.
