Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease and flour two 9-inch round baking pans.
  2. In a large bowl, whisk together the flour, cocoa powder, baking powder, and sugar until well combined.
  3. In another bowl, beat the eggs with vanilla extract. Gradually add the melted butter while whisking until smooth.
  4. Slowly combine the wet ingredients with the dry ingredients, stirring until just mixed—some lumps are fine.
  5. Fold in the chopped nuts evenly throughout the batter.
  6. Divide the batter between the prepared pans and bake for 30-35 minutes, or until a toothpick comes out clean.
  7. Let cakes cool for 10 minutes in pans before transferring to wire racks. Once cooled completely, whip heavy cream with powdered sugar until fluffy and frost as desired.
