  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 3/4 cup unsalted butter (room temperature)
  • 4 large eggs
  • 2 teaspoons pure vanilla extract
  • 1 cup whole milk
  • 1 cup heavy cream (for ganache)
  • 1 cup semi-sweet chocolate chips (for ganache)

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease and flour two 9-inch round cake pans.
  2. In a bowl, whisk together flour, cocoa powder, baking powder, and salt.
  3. In another bowl, cream butter and sugar until light and fluffy (about 3-4 minutes).
  4. Beat in eggs one at a time along with vanilla extract until well combined.
  5. Gradually add dry ingredients to the butter mixture, alternating with milk until just combined.
  6. Divide batter between prepared pans and bake for 30-35 minutes or until a toothpick comes out clean. Cool in pans for 10 minutes before transferring to wire racks.
