  • 1 ½ tsp baking powder
  • 1 cup granulated sugar
  • ½ cup unsalted butter, softened
  • 3 large eggs (room temperature)
  • 1 cup whole milk
  • 1 cup heavy cream (for caramel)
  • 1 cup brown sugar
  • 2 tsp pure vanilla extract

  1. Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease and flour two 9-inch round cake pans.
  2. In a large bowl, whisk together flour, cocoa powder, baking powder, and sugar.
  3. In another bowl, cream butter until smooth. Add eggs one at a time, mixing well.
  4. Mix in milk and vanilla until combined. Gradually add dry ingredients to wet mixture.
  5. Divide batter evenly into prepared pans and bake for 30–35 minutes, or until a toothpick comes out clean.
  6. For the caramel sauce: Combine brown sugar and heavy cream in a saucepan over medium heat; stir until boiling and simmer for about 5 minutes.
  7. Once cooled, layer the cakes with caramel sauce in between. Drizzle extra caramel on top if desired.
